Channelwrack 40g

Channelwrack (Fucus canaliculatus) is a brown seaweed commonly found on sheltered rocky shores of the Atlantic. Recognisable by its narrow, channeled fronds and golden-brown colour, it is hand-harvested sustainably at low tide and carefully dried to preserve its natural minerals and flavour.

Channelwrack is valued for its rich umami taste and versatility in both traditional coastal recipes and modern culinary creations.

Flavour Profile:

  • Savoury, naturally salty, and mildly sweet

  • Earthy undertones with a gentle marine aroma

  • Firm yet tender texture when rehydrated

Nutritional Benefits:

Channelwrack is naturally high in:

  • Iodine – supports healthy thyroid function

  • Fucoidan – for immune and gut support

  • Calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron

  • Vitamins A, C, E & K

  • Antioxidants – protecting cells from oxidative stress

  • Polysaccharides – support digestive health

How to Cook & Consume Channelwrack

Soups, Broths & Stocks

  • Add a few fronds to simmering soups or stocks.

  • Cook for 10–20 minutes to extract flavour.

Rehydrated for Stir-Fries & Salads

  • Soak in cool water for 10–15 minutes to soften.

  • Slice thinly and add to stir-fries, grain bowls, or salads.

  • Pairs well with mushrooms, root vegetables, and legumes.

Seasoning Flakes or Powder

  • Grind dried channelwrack into a fine powder.

  • Sprinkle on roasted vegetables, eggs, fish, or rice.

  • Combine with salt to make an umami-rich seasoning blend.

Pickling & Fermentation

  • Enhances natural flavours and mineral content.

Tea / Mineral Infusion

  • Can be combined with herbs like mint, lemon balm, or ginger.

Preparation Tips:

  • Rinse lightly to remove sand or debris before use.

  • Do not overcook to preserve minerals and flavour.

  • Small quantities are sufficient due to its natural saltiness.
